MEDITATION

Spirituality, Physical & Mental Health & Well-Being

For many people meditation is a practice which brings a sense of spirituality to their lives, and a clarity to whichever belief system they subscribe to. It is a tool for testing what is true in our lives and what is not, what is useful for ourselves and others and what is not. It is a method by which we can allow our own wisdom and compassion to manifest on a daily basis.

For many others meditation is a tool for combatting the physical and mental stress which can result from difficult circumstances in our daily lives. By practicing meditation your heart rate and breathing slow down, your blood pressure normalizes, you use oxygen more efficiently, your autonomic nervous system becomes more balanced, your immune function improves and your creativity increases.

Meditation is free and can be practiced by anyone regardless of age and physical abilities.

Meditation is extremely simple but it is not easy. It does require a commitment to practice on a regular basis. But you can do it. And it is worth it.

There are many forms of meditation. The primary form of meditation we use is Zazen, although we also use some guided body-scan meditations and some Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction techniques.

Don't worry, instruction is provided at group and individual levels. And you should feel free to ask any questions you have about meditation posture and practice.
